Patient Choice

It is important to us that patients and the public feel supported and informed when making decisions about their healthcare.

The NHS Choice Framework is a guide to your choices about your NHS care and treatment. It explains:

  • When you have choices about your healthcare
  • Where to get more information to help you choose
  • How to complain if you are not offered a choice

NHS e-Referrals

NHS e-Referrals is gradually being rolled out across East Sussex Healthcare Trust services.

Once you and your GP have agreed that you need to see a specialist, you can use NHS e-Referrals to book an appointment. You will be able to choose from a list of hospitals and clinics and appointment dates and times to suit you.

  • You can choose any hospital in England funded by the NHS (this includes NHS hospitals and some independent hospitals)
  • You can choose the date and time of your appointment or be sent an appointment that can be changed at your convenience
  • You can plan and manage around your existing appointments and fit treatment in with your other commitments
  • There is less chance of miscommunication or correspondence being lost in the post
  • You can check the status of your referral and change or cancel appointments easily over the phone or on the internet
